A Short Trip

We've been in Las Vegas for a few days. Mr. SS is taking an 8 day class. We took off last Monday afternoon and won't be home until next Tuesday night.
It was kind of a last minute thing, and after the 108 degree temperature we had last Sunday, I was glad to hop in the air conditioned car and was prepared to spend 8 days in an air conditioned room.

After a sweltering day on Sunday of working on our motorhome and getting it ready to go back into storage, and packing for the trip, we were sitting outside at dusk trying to cool off. ( The metal box  RV  cottage we live in just doesn't get cool at 108.)  We don't usually see great sunsets but when I looked up and saw the sky, I had to run and get my camera.
Of course by the time I got back to snap it, it was almost gone.
Story of my life.
Monday before we left, I called and asked Brooke to come down. I finally gave her the Ladybug apron I made for her. She was so tickled and it sure looks cuter on her than on Rosie the manequin
As we were driving through Tehachapi on our way to Vegas, I was looking at the wind farms and tried to snap a couple of pictures. There are thousands of these between Tehachapi, and Mojave.
Mr. SS and I both at the same time said, "Wonder if Scott (our oldest) is up repairing one of those?"
After we closed our construction business he was forced to find a new career and was blessed finally this last year with a job working for one of these many wind farms.  He has to go to the top and is trained to repair them...no, I don't want to think about it.
I also commented that there are usually a lot of them not turning, but that day, we only saw two. Mr.SS jokingly said maybe Scott is doing his job. LOL

Okay, so...for several days, I just didn't want to pay to have the internet in the Hotel. I thought I could live a week without reading blogs, posting on my blog, reading e-mail and Pinterest. WRONG
I finally caved and signed us up.  It's amazing how hooked one (me) can get on this little screen.

Anyway, I brought my little sewing machine and have been sewing away in my air conditioned room.
I made this bag for my cousin Judy and snapped two pictures and the batteries on my camera went dead.
I did a lot of top stitching and wanted to show you the details. I even stitiched around the polka dots on the pocket.

I'm going to have to go down to the gift shop and see if they have batteries, because I wanted to show you the patchwork on the bottom, and the pockets inside too.\

I also made a tablerunner for the 4th. I'm doing some hand quilting on it, but for the sake of time will finish by machine quilting the rest.

Also brought 3 little handwork projects...a couple of books and my kindle of course.
Mr. SS is in class 10 hrs. a day and studies at night, so other than going down for dinner, I have had plenty of me time.

Our anniversary was yesterday...44yrs. and we went to one of the restaurants here in the hotel. I wish I could have gotten a picture of the size and presentation of the food.
I told Mr.SS we would have to go back there before we leave so I can get a picture after I get batteries.  He just laughed. He knows after my 2 1/2 yrs. of blogging, that it's all about the pictures for my blog.
You all know what I mean!!

Sew and Sew

Today, I took some projects down to Strawberry Patches.  They are models for store patterns and fabrics.
I have the most fun job. You know by now how much I love to sew.
Add to that, someone to pick out the cutest coordinating fabrics,
give me adorable patterns to work with and the best quality fabric money can buy.
I get to have all the fun.
Don't you wish you had a cute little boy to make this for...I do.
My boys are all to big for the cuteness of these PJ's too. They are so stylish with a coordinating orange collar and pocket.
Then there  is this adorable dress.
Completely reversible to the cutest bitty check you have ever seen
Besides the projects for SP, I have been able to sneak in a couple projects of my own.
Emmy loved her ladybug bib so much and so did her Mommy...so much she would wash it out by hand so it would be ready for Emmy's next mess meal.
Soooo, I made  a Strawberry bib.
These are my own design and I have got it down pat now.
I made 2 of these. The first one had red lettering and it didn't show up...well guess what? Green doesn't show up either.
In person you can see it a little better than it shows in the picture.
Here's a closeup. My embroidery machine is still humming along.

Lastly, I wanted to show a pillow I started while I was in San Diego last month.
Remember you can click on it to enlarge. I did a hand blanket stitch on the design and hand quilted a cross-hatch on the background. It was tedious, but I love the way it turned out. It will go in my blue trailer along with the Dresden Quilt that I need to get back to one of these days.
I used vintage buttons for the center of the flowers,
and covered big buttons for the back.

I have a disclaimer here. I saw this on Pam Kitty Morning's blog and just fell in love. So I copied
replicated it. You can click on her link above to see the one I copied loved so much. There is a link for Late Bloomer where you will find the pattern too.
It's called "Key to My Heart" .  I need to add my key yet.

Well, all I can say is Pam Kitty Morning fabric has the key to my heart right now. I love it sooo much and am using it almost exclusively for decorating my blue trailer, which we will be working on again in a couple of weeks. I cannot wait to show you some pictures of the transformation.
I have even talked Mr. SS into adding some red to the outside.
So it will be our Red, white and blue trailer (and yellow too).

Horsing Around and Other Fun Stuff

This weekend was a busy one, but on Saturday the weather was pleasantly warm.
After spending the day working on some motor home up keep and repairs, I sat down and kid watched for awhile.

The girls had spent the day at a swim meet, but came home to enjoy some chores that needed to be done.
Lexi loves bathing the horses.
She scrubs them with soap and water and then squirts them off with the hose. They seemed to enjoy it as much as she did.
This is Paris getting her bath,
and getting brushed.
Belle isn't about to be left out and gets her bath too.

A little loving time with Cami and Belle is one happy horse
Lexi goes for a ride. I laughingly told Mr. SS that only Lexi could ride bareback in her competition swimsuit, gym shorts and cowgirl boots and still look stylish.
Belle is (how shall I says this) OLD and more gentle to ride.
Drew rides Paris, but outfitted in t-shirt, jeans, cowgirl boots and hat.
Paris is a retired racehorse and loves to go fast. Drew does a great job keeping her in line.

I know I have explained this before, but our motorhome is (how shall I say this?)OLD...and needing some repairs and updating.. We only live in it when we are on an out of town job. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to replace the valances to the three windows in the bedroom. I had taken down the ones that were in there when we got it because they were so dusty, and as I took them off the rods, they tore into pieces.
The motor home has tan and brown walls, ceilings, and carpet, so I had to work with that.  These fabrics are some I had bought to use in my bedroom in our house, but...well just never got it done.
The valance is just a simple one, shirred on a 2 1/2 " rod. I upholstered the side cornices, using batting and the existing forms.
The valance looks like bark cloth with a little tropical feel and some animal prints. Not me at all, but I like it in here.
The side cornices are covered in a pretty linen look fabric with french writing.
There isn't much to see of the head board, but I covered it in new batting and the tropical print, then piped it with the tan with the french writing.
I have two lampshades to cover in the tan and enough of the print to make a couple of throw pillows. The bedspread is Tan, of course, so I really think the new fabrics spruced up the place.

On to Sunday. Cade, our 7 year old All Star had a tournament today.
They played 3 games and won them all and took home the championship medal.
Here he is going up for his first time at bat.
He was so tired, but so happy at the end of the day, as you can see here.
Looks pretty good for a boy who was out there playing from 10:00am until 7:00pm.
I didn't fare so well and am totally exhausted, but wouldn't have missed it for anything.
He has another tournament in July, so I'll rest up for that one.

Had to throw this picture in too. It was his first tournament.
He is the spitting image of his Daddy. Watching him play brings back so many memories.
Where does time go???

I have been working on some more fun sewing projects and will be showing you those soon. More models for Strawberry Patches and some other fun things too.

Hope all of you had a great weekend and enjoyed it as much as I did mine.
I would love to know what you did.

In the mean time, I have two little snuggle bugs in the other room who will be up early wanting breakfast, so think I'd better try to get some rest too.

This and That

Today we were off to a small town about 30 miles north for the girls 3rd. swim meet.
They all won ribbons and a couple of medals
(don't know why this is so light. Normally my cameras pictures are a little on the dark side...go figure)
Anyway, they each swam  in 3 events spaced over 3 1/2 hrs. so we spent some time just clowning around in the park adjacent to the pool.
Mr. SS and Brooke
Camy and Brooke
Mommy Olivia and Jack
Brooke is really hugging Emmy although you might think she has her in a choke hold. Look at the hand on the hip.

Over the weekend we celebrated Jack's 6th birthday.
Nope those aren't all my grands. Just 7 of my 10 were there.
It was a swim party and it was hard getting them out of the pool for opening presents.

Here's the shirt I made for Jack. I still haven't gotten a picture of him wearing it. Funny thing...boys don't like to just "try on" clothes like girls do.
I got him some black shorts to go with and I will get a picture.

Last weekend while Mr. SS was golfing and helping put up a patio, I got some sewing done.
This is a lap size baby blanket for a Strawberry Patches customer.
I'm not very good at random, but this was supposed to be "random". I spent quite a while arranging and then rearranging the blocks, thought I had it right and through the eye of the camera saw some blocks in the wrong place and spent quite a while rearranging again. Funny thing...if you move one, you might as well start over.
Oh well, it finally got done and I took it outside today to take a picture before taking it to SP for the customer to pick up.
We have been having strong winds for a couple of days. I laid this out, stood back to snap the picture and somehow the wind blew the branch so that the shadow is on the quilt. Now I did not see that through the eye of the camera.
So I tried again and same thing...darn wind.
Anyway, you get the idea. The pattern, called Cuddle Bug  is fairly easy, just time consuming with a satin ruffle and Minkee backing.

One more picture and I'm off to bed. Swim meet wore me out.
Emmy Lou showing off her very stylish bathing suit.
Very rare occasion, because if left up to her she would be swimming in her birthday suit (and often is)
Gotta love that smile.
